Assumption Volunteers serve in some of the 34 countries of the world where the Assumption Sisters are present and in projects connected with them.
Our main partner is AMA – Associate Missionaries of the Assumption – which has run a volunteer programme for 25 years and can place recent graduates and teachers alongside Filipino volunteers in educational and social projects. We can also send those skilled in business or marketing to a local cooperative needing assistance in producing and marketing goods for sale.
The Living and Learning Centre in Rio de Janeiro works with children from the local shanty towns and can place English speakers for lessons and cultural exchange. An English teacher can also be placed in rural north-east Brazil, with our partner, Volunteer-in-Brazil.
The Sisters run a secondary school in Vilnius, thirty percent of the pupils having physical or learning disabilities. A volunteer would assist the English teacher and help with games, clubs and trips.
Two very different opportunities - teaching English in a high school in the north or a primary school in the south.
Kids Kabin (set up originally by the Assumption Sisters) in Walker, East Newcastle, for community development through creative arts for children.
The Good Neighbour Project in West Newcastle - co-operation between the local churches for the regeneration of a local community.
